Gino completed his military service in the Italian Air Force, in Siena & Rome. While in Rome his duty was to stay motionless for hours on end, as one of the two soldiers standing to attention on the monument locals call the Typewriter. During this time, he invested in some Linguaphone records to learn French & English. In 1955, he left for work in Paris where he was appointed butler to Sir Robert Morley who lived near the Trocadero. From there he moved to the UK where he had found an employment contract as a waiter at the Lygon Arms hotel in Broadway, Worcs.
